Need a new phone....help

I have been with Sprint for 11 yrs. I am looking at Verizon or T-mobile. I need 2 phones, one basic phone just sending and recieving calls with good clear reception, I prefer a phone that flips open so the numbers and such are covered when not in use. I need another one for my 20 something daughter, her main concern is a good keyboard for texting, plus it's got to look good. She was looking at the rant ( sprint) or the sidekick(?)
Please advise, I am not at all tech sauvy so I need help.
