iPhone Game Review: Domino Dice

A few puzzle games brings so much details to play with like Domino Dice.

Unraveled dice and dominos are part of this puzzle that are solved with a bit of luck (the dice part) and a lot of strategy and logic.

Packed with 600 puzzles it is a game to enjoy for a long time.

The game size is only 3.6 MB.

The gameplay is unique. It evolves two elements as the game title itself suggests: dice and dominos.

You will need a dice number in order to fill the board. The board filling follows a straight rule (a sequence is not required). So you can have e.g. in one column 5, 3, and 4 (that is a straight but not a sequence like 3, 4, and 5).

A black tile with white dots means that number can?t be in that column and row and it does not make part of straight necessarily.

When you start to play you have to tap a tile on the board and then pick a number using the bottom dice.

However the dice at bottom is initially blank. And that is basically another puzzle to solve. The goal here is to discover where each number is. You can see up to 5 of the 6 dice numbers. Along the game it remembers the ones you have already found. Note that each game uses a different dice.

In addition, along with straights and dice configuration you have to play aiming unique dominos creation. And according to the game rule (sic): ?If an ivory die with black dots is next to the newly turned over ivory die, the two are automatically turned into a domino piece?. So in order to increase your chances to create a new domino you have to keep filling the board always next to a reveled tile. This increases the strategic side of the game a lot because if you randomly select the next tile to fill you will not probably achieve a high score.

Just note the board tiles that you have to fill contains a number (they look like disabled) and they are another hint that you have to use to solve the puzzle.

Now the score system. The goal is to get as less score as possible. Each dice move is one point. Each created domino is less two points. There is an online high score but the used system is not as clear as usual. You can not access the high score directly. It is only displayed at bottom left while playing and when the game is finished a proper screen is displayed.

To make things a bit harder to follow, you can?t go back to a previous puzzle to try it again or check the high score.

Anyway, the puzzle is too good to let it go just because the high score system.

Finally each puzzle can be played with one of the three difficulty mode represented by cards.

The graphics and the interface itself are very polished and it has an own style.

Along with that the controls are very responsive.

It?s a very good looking game.

It has good sounds for the basic actions.

The game does not have its own background music but it allows iPOD music along with game sound effects.
