iPhone Game Review: Doodle God
Reviewed by Spaztrigger

Have you ever wanted to be a god and create new things and new world? A new iPhone game lets you do just that. In Doodle God, you are god and you must create nearly 140 different elements starting out with only four! Using many combinations you can make different elements and with some helpful guidance (Aka light bulb), you can practice to becoming a deity; but most fun of all create anything your imaginations take you.

Doodle God has a simple gameplay: making and combining elements to form new elements and you only have one game mode to do that in. You start out with four elements which are fire, wind, earth, and water. Using the four elements you can create up to 140 different elements and 15 different types of groups. Groups are elements that have the same qualities as one another. If you had earth, clay, stone, and limestone they would go into one group and create a new group called earth group. If you get stumped and can't find any new elements then you can always use the light bulb as guidance. The light bulb gives you two kinds of hints: hint #1 it shows an element that you haven't gotten but doesn't tell you how to make it; hint #2 shows you a group of two different elements and tells that a new element can be created using the elements given to you. You will see what I mean when you use it. After using the light bulb you have to charge it for 3 minutes before you can use it again.

The more things you create the complicated gameplay becomes. It certainly is interesting to find out that being a god requires a lot of organization and imagination, and creating things aren?t as easy as it was described in the Bible. Surprise! After you discover all the elements the game gets kind of dull, but getting the 140 elements are not a short journey. And as we are told new updates are on the way so you can expect to discover new elements!

What an interesting way to create a game that requires its players to doodle. Yet doodles play main part of the game, and the drawings don?t look like your 5-year old?s creation either. Though simple doodles many look like masterpieces made by professional artists. They look so good that they almost escape the doodle shapes and make all items look like real life items, and that?s not easy.

Doodle God has a simple touch control: tapping. You tap on an element and tap on another element and violā you either have a new element or what you combined was not in the game. The control works very smoothly without any glitch or slow down.

Music and sound effects make you feel like a deity in Doodle God and that fits the theme of the game just fine. When you make new elements you are greeted with a hallelujah or some other godly sound. Music too has that heavenly touch, and it doesn?t feel boring even after playing the game for a while. If you don't like the music in Doodle God and want to play your own then you're out of luck. The game doesn?t support in-game iPod music. In my experience playing the game though, the audio package was more than adequate.

It?s not everyday we get an original game with an original idea, and Doodle God is a nice surprise. It?s fun when you can create new things to fill up your barren world. With 140 elements to discover and create, the gameplay feels quite beefy and it?s worth the price of admission. Plus with a firm promise we are looking forward to an update that will include MORE items! What's the reason NOT to get it!
