iPhone Game Review: Dino Rush
Reviewed by ninjackid

I'm pretty sure that that by now, every iOS gamer is familiar with the horizontal endless runner genre. Some are excellent and addictive, and some don't quite have that must-have appeal. So how does Dino Rush compete against its fellow runners? Read on...

In Dino Rush by Nemoid Studios, you play as Dundy, a lovable cute dinosaur who has an immense appetite, who must run and eat more...fruits. The game plays like any casual horizontal runner, with Dundy running from the left to the right of the screen, and merely tapping the screen to make him jump and tapping it again to make him fly higher and higher. But unlike in other games in this genre, you have to keep Dundy's rapidly decreasing health bar full by eating fruits. And to make matters worse, as if his draining health bar wasn't draining enough by simply running, each time you jump and/or fly, and when to run into an obstacle, it decreases it even more.

This all makes for a rather fun and addictive title, which becomes rapidly frantic as you try and keep Dundy alive and running through three different landscapes including lush jungles, barren dry terrain burned by volcanoes, and even a frozen world with everything covered in ice.

There are enemies and obstacles placed along your path, along with power-ups to help you out. And at the end of each game you play, depending on how much fruit you ate, you will be rewarded a certain amount of coins, which you can save up to buy additional power-ups or even another unlockable character.

Graphics & Sound

The graphics have a great cute cartoony look to them and they are well designed. You will notice the great details in different backgrounds and landscapes. Our dino Dundy moves smoothly. Controls are easy to use and have not glitches.

The sound is simply done, and is not much to write home about. But it doesn't take away from the gameplay and it does its job. iPod music is not supported currently.

Dino Rush takes the endless runner genre, and while keeping the addictive just-one-more-try appeal that fans of the genre have come to know and love, and adds a fresh new aspect to it. The need to eat more fruit to survive magically makes the gameplay frantic and quite unique in the genre. Definitely recommended for fans of side scrolling runners, or causal games in general.

Ratings (scale of 1 to 5):

Graphics: - 5 - Cute, cartoony visuals look great.
Sound: - 4 - Simple, yet good sound effects and music. iPod music not supported.
Controls: - 5 - Simply tap the screen to jump and fly. Control scheme works great.
Gameplay: - 4.5 - Fun, addictive runner with that just-one-more-try appeal to it.

Playing Hints and Tips:

-Be sure to collect all the protons that the enemies drop if you want to increase your score.
