Video review: Motorola Droid Pro QWERTY phone on Verizon
      12/11/10 12:48 AM

The Motorola Droid Pro is a little bit of this and a little bit of that. It has superphone elements when you look under the hood: a 1GHz TI OMAP ARM Cortex-A8 CPU with PowerVR graphics and 512 megs of RAM. It runs Froyo Android OS 2.2 with no interface enhancements to slow things down. The benchmarks say this is a fast Android smartphone, and indeed it feels fast.

But it has a relatively uninspiring 3.1" HVGA display and a lot of gloss plastics for a high end Moto Droid. That said, it's a good looking phone and it's built like a tank. And it doesn't want to beat the Droid 2 at the high end, sexy phone game. It wants to give the BlackBerry a run for your money. It has a front-facing QWERTY keyboard just like the beloved 'Berry. It has software enhancements that improve security and syncing such as VPN support, remote wipe and Exchange ActiveSync for you MS Exchange types. The Droid Pro is the phone that eases the switch to Android (and might not have your IT folks in an uproar).

Other amenities include 3G EV-DO Rev. A, GSM world roaming capabilities courtesy of the usual Verizon/Vodafone co-branded SIM card, WiFi 802.11b/g/n, a 5 megapixel camera with dual LED flash, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR and a GPS that works with Google Maps and VZ Navigator.

Here's our video review of the Motorola Droid Pro. Our written review will follow this weekend.
