iPhone/iPad Game Review: Galaxy on Fire 2
Reviewed by Abisco / Abbass-Ali Siwjee

Galaxy on Fire 2, the successor to the famous Galaxy on Fire which was released on mobile phones a while back, is a full space shooter, where you embark on epic quests, buy ships, upgrades, weapons and the like to face the daunting task set out in front of you. It is currently a Universal application.

Really, where to begin with a game THIS big? For a game on the iOS platform, it really is amazing that this came out, given the sheer depth of the game. The meat of the gameplay is to fly around a ship in a HUMONGOUS playing field, you can travel to solar systems within the universe and battle it out against space pirates. You have space stations all over the universe to land on and buy new ships, weapons, upgrades, or cargo to sell later on at a higher price.

What makes the gameplay more fun than just buying stuff and fending off pirates is the faction system. You can be in any fact you choose, for example you really don?t need to attack only pirates, you could for example attack friendly space ships, make them your enemies and make the pirates your friends. The game is THAT flexible. But underlying all this freedom is a surprisingly deep story which you really just want to follow. By far the most entertaining feature is all the interactive choices you have. Do you want to follow the main quest only, or do side quests so you can buy that awesome ship. Or maybe you just want to mine some of the many asteroids in this solar system? Or if that?s not enough, travel to another solar system via the auto pilot system and buy some cool weapons there. The choices are very open and that?s probably the best part of the game.

But this wouldn?t really matter if the choices you have didn?t have an impact. Thankfully everything you buy shows a difference to you. If you buy the newer slower cannon, it will show on my ship in the docking bay the new cannon attached to your ship. Better yet, if you have an iPad and iPhone and can?t choose which one to play on (given the fact this game is a universal game) you can just put your save file on the OpenFeint cloud based saving system, where then you can continue on your other iOS device straight away from where you left off. It really is convenient and an amazing feature to add, given how big this game is. The game has quite a lot of content in terms of side quests as well as just collecting ships so if you are looking for a console quality game, this is it.

Not enough can be said about how epic the graphics for this game is. They really just POP for you, and everything looks absolutely gorgeous. Stars really shimmer, and give you that glaring effect, yet also reflect off your ship. The game just LOOKS like an xbox360 game, which is absolutely crazy given this is on an iPhone/iPad.

Everything in the game truly cracks and pops, all the sound effects are exactly what you would expect, and the game even has FULL voice acting for all the story line missions, which is a lot of text. The soundtrack is especially nice, given a really nice sci-fi feeling to it, I mean it truly feels like this isn?t galaxy on fire, but rather a star wars game. It?s that awesome.

If you are looking for a console quality game that looks amazing, has a lot of content, and is truly the definition of bang for your buck, then look no further then this game. It will give you exactly what you want, and you will no doubt have a hard time putting this bad boy down.

Ratings (scale of 1 to 5): Graphics: - 5 - Top class graphics, obviously one of the best looking games on the iPhone/iPad
Sound: - 5 - A really awesome soundtrack and a lot of voice acting proves that this game is not a game put together in minutes. The sound is amazing all across the board.
Controls: - 4.5 - There are 2 control schemes, accelerometer and joystick, both work well but feel a little odd.
Gameplay: - 5 - Everything about this game is amazing. It has so much content you will not want to put this down?.ever.

Playing Hints and Tips:

Save up your cash for some of the better ships and you should be fine later on in the game. Everything is pretty linear though, just try the side quests whenever you get a chance, always check the store from some sweet deals, and a little mining of asteroids never hurt anyone when your ship capacity isn?t at full .
