We work with several major online cell phone retailers who sell phones for all major US carriers. We've been given word that ATT is cutting off online-only dealers in what strikes us as a desperate attempt to save money. Supposedly this decision came from "the top" at AT&T as a cost cutting measure.
This is supposed to go down within 30 days, so that means if you see a good deal from the likes of LetsTalk, Wirefly, Walmart's online cell phone store and perhaps even Amazon, you'd better jump on it now.
Has the loss of iPhone exclusivity plus a relatively weak smartphone lineup lead to this, along with AT&T's lackluster last quarter results? We wouldn't be surprised. But is cutting off your online network of third party dealers, some of whom move a huge number of phones, a good idea?
