Video Review: 5 Top Android News Readers
      02/17/11 10:24 AM

The Android Market is an ever-expanding place that much like the iTunes app store, is filled with so many apps it's hard to wade through them all and find something really good. So we've rounded up 5 of the top Android news readers. Some are straight RSS news readers and some bring in all sorts of sources for a broader look at news and trends.

We check out:

- Google Reader: they're late to the game, but Google's RSS reader is free and gets the job done.

- FeedR: I've been using this RSS news reader for quite some time, and I love the inline post-viewing, attractive formatting and ability to work with my Google news feed account or imported feed files. Cost: $1.99

- NewsRob: This one has been around a long time and it's a perennial favorite with our readers. The free version has small ads along the bottom and removes a few "advanced" features. Also available is NewsRob Pro for $2.70. We look at the free version.

- Pulse: Pulse is growing in popularity quickly and it has a different look from other readers; it goes with a very pretty graphical approach that's best explained with video. You can use Google news feeds or pick from Pulse's extensive list or add your own feeds manually. It has solid social networking features for sharing articles. Free.

- YourVersion for smartphone and tablet: We take a look at both smartphone and tablet editions. Both are free and require free account creation. The tablet version is our favorite with a wonderfully simple yet powerful user interface. This is not a strict RSS news reader. Rather you enter in topics or keywords of interest and YourVersion pulls from all kind of online sources (RSS, blogs, web pages, video and Twitter). It's a great way to get out of your shell and discover fresh news and blog sources for topics of interest. YourVersion can share articles via social networking. Free.

In our video we walk through each programs look and features using the Samsung Galaxy Tab, Dell Streak 5, HTC Inspire 4G and the Samsung Nexus S.

Here's our video review of these 5 apps.
