iPhone Game Review: Volcano Escape Reviewed by ninjackid
So you're stuck in a volcano and about to be killed by the rapidly rising lava. To make matters worse, tribe members are in your way to make sure you don't escape. What do you do?
Volcano Escape by Bravo is an endless survival game, in which your goal is to jump your way out of the volcano while using your gun to blast away anyone in your way, along with numerous power-ups to aid you on your frantic journey to escape.
The game is actually a blend of various genres and has the set up of a vertical platformer but the action of a dual stick shooter. The game has two virtual sticks: one to move and one to fire, along with a button to jump. This control method works fine enough, except for the fact that sometimes when you jump the character can feel floaty and unbalanced, making jumps sometimes imprecise. This isn't a game-breaking problem, however, and after you play a few games you can get used to the way things work.
Volcano Escape starts you off with three lives and you lose one each time you touch an enemy or obstacle, but when the lava catches up to you, it's game over.
You start off playing as Charlie Bravo, but additional characters can be unlocked by completing certain tasks. The game features plenty achievements and an online leaderboard.
Graphics & Sound
The graphics are a great 3D colorful design, and all the characters and backgrounds are greatly detailed and look great overall.
The sound is also good, with drums and flutes, overall enhancing the games theme. Each character also says quotes while playing, giving each character a sense of personality. iPod music is also supported.
Volcano Escape is an out of ordinary endless survival title, with a unique concept and genre blending. If you're looking for an endless survival game that has both platformer and dual stick shooter flavors check out Volcano Escape.
