iPad 2 Case Review: Philips Sleeve Case for iPad 2

What's Hot: Very slim, well built and fits the iPad 2 perfectly.

What's Not: The microfiber doesn't clean the iPad 2 completely.

There are many reasons why you would want to buy an iPad 2, but one thing almost all iPad 2 owners can agree on is that you need a case to protect the beautifully thin but slippery tablet when you put it in your bag or backpack. And because the new iPad 2 is slimmer than the original iPad, a form fitting case has to be redesigned. The Philips Sleeve Case for iPad 2 fits the new tablet perfectly and offers three layers of protection. Surprisingly it's also incredibly slim.

Simple and Slim

The Philips Sleeve Case is a form fitting sleeve that has an opening for top loading and a wide band that secure the iPad 2 in the case with a Velcro closure. The case is very slim with a flat front side that protects the iPad 2?s screen and a curved backside that contours the back of the tablet perfectly. Though form fitting, the case isn?t very tight. This allows you to take the iPad 2 out of the case with ease, and won?t make you feel like you need to squeeze the tablet so tight to slip it out of the case that you are afraid you might break the tablet.

Though the Philips Sleeve Case has three layers of material to protect the iPad 2, it?s incredibly slim and doesn?t add much bulk at all to your ultra thin tablet. The wide band not only closes the case with a Velcro snap, it also comes through the bottom of the case on the inside and works like a pull tab, so when you lift the band while the iPad 2 is in the case, the band lifts the iPad 2 out of the case. So you don?t need to grab the tablet at all when taking it out of the case.

Features and Quality

The three layers of the Philips Sleeve case include a strong polyester woven textile material on the exterior, a preformed EVA foam with air cells in the middle to provide some cushioning and shock absorption, and a lint-free microfiber layer on the inside that won?t scratch the surface of your iPad 2 and also provide some cleaning when the tablet is rubbed against the inside of the case. The quality of the materials looks top notch, and the stitching looks flawless. The case is reasonable rigid yet has decent padding.

The microfiber on the inside isn?t super soft but it certainly is lint free. Since the case is not very tight, which we like, the microfiber doesn?t clean the iPad 2?s screen very well, unlike some cases where you slide in a device with a fingerprint ridden screen and slide out a shiny one. So don?t count on the cleaning feature of this sleeve case. The closure strip is also built very sturdily and can easily lift your iPad 2 out of the case.

Summary

The Philips Sleeve Case for iPad 2 is for those who are carrying their Apple tablet in a computer bag, a large purse or a backpack. It will prevent scratches and bumps and bruises you typically see in a backpack and it doesn?t add much bulk or weight to the iPad 2. The case is easy to use, and comes in black with green microfiber lining and when it?s shipping, the case will be available in major retail stores such as Walmart and Target.
