iPhone Game Review: Robot Wants Kitty Reviewed by ninjackid
To some of you, the name "Raptisoft" might sound vaguely, or even strongly, familiar. Perhaps that's because you've played other games by this developer, such as Solomon's Keep. Well. Get ready for the latest from Raptisoft, Robot Wants Kitty!
Robot Wants Kitty is a 2D side-scrolling platformer, in which as the title suggests that the robot wants his kitty and nothing will stand in his way. The game includes 6 rather large levels, and a level editor to save your own levels. Currently, you aren't able to share your levels online, but the developers are working on that!
Robot Wants Kitty is a Metroidvania-like 2D puzzle platformer in which you must traverse your way through the labyrinth levels, upgrading your robot's abilities as you progress in the level. For example, each level starts with the robot only being able to move left and right, but as you progress, you collect different "apps" which upgrade the robot, such as jumping, shooting, etc.
Each level is timed, and you are scored by how fast you completed the level. Time is reduced each time your robot dies, and time pauses for a few seconds after you kill an enemy. The current levels are loaded with enemies, bosses, key cards, locked doors, and everything one would desire in a puzzle platformer. Sometimes the going is rough and some levels are rather difficult. But the end result is only more rewarding this way.
While the game can get hectic and the ride seems fun, the game doesn?t have much replay value, as there are only 6 levels and little incentive to play through them again, unless you are a high-score junkie and want to improve your best time. Those with creative genes can save more levels, but it will really make a difference when we can share our levels.
All this being said, Robot Wants Kitty stands among the best platformers on the iOS, thanks to its tight controls and fun gameplay.
Graphics & Sound
The graphics are definitely among the best! They have a great cute cartoon-ish look to them, and are the monsters are just loveable. As is the robot and the kitty.
The sound fits the game's theme perfectly. With electronic beeps and boops, it gives the game an almost retro feel.
Robot Wants Kitty is a great game for any platforming fan out there. Or even if you're looking for something with a great level editor. The gameplay is fun and the controls are responsive. The game still has a lot of potential when the level sharing feature comes out in future updates.
