HTC Sensation 4G on T-Mobile First Look
      06/03/11 11:28 AM

Our HTC Sensation 4G on T-Mobile US has arrived, and it's one nice Android smartphone. We've been every so eagerly looking forward to the Sensation as a serious competitor to the LG G2X on T-Mobile. Both are large screen, dual core beasts, but HTC brings their Sense 3.0 software, a 4.3" qHD 540 x 960 display to the table, and it's the first US phone with a dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU running at 1.2GHz.

Build and design are typical HTC: very good materials with their modern, understated look. The back cover is very interesting: it wraps around the sides of the phone and has several metal contacts. Remove the cover and the phone turns off the cell radio because we assume it passes too much interference without the cover and the FCC might not like that.

The HTC Sensation runs Android OS 2.3.3 Gingerbread with HTC Sense software. We'll cover the new version of Sense and mySense in our video review later today. The phone will be available June 15 for $199 after a $50 rebate with a 2 yeer contract. It has WiFi calling, WiFi mobile hotspot, 4G HSPA+ and the usual WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS that works with Google Maps and TeleNav.

We're a little disappointed that a flagship phone like the Sensation only has 1 gig of internal memory, and T-Mobile includes an 8 gig microSD card to make ammends. All the usual Android apps are on board along with N.O.V.A., TeleNav, T-Mobile TV and more (we'll cover the software in depth in our review).

We have T-Mobile 4G HSPA+ coverage here (including 42mbps service for their new Rocket 3.0 USB stick), and we're seeing the fastest download speeds yet using the Sensation-- our top figure on Speedtest.net was 9mbps with a mediocre -99db connection.

Do we like the HTC Sensation 4G so far? Yes, indeed.
