What's Hot: Very comfy and stable to wear, clear sound quality and loud volume, good quality materials, and True Blood branding for the fans.
What's Not: Some bass budding in Rock songs, can't move mic piece.
V-moda has established itself as a maker of high quality earbud headsets for mobile devices. They have teamed up with HBO to bring True Blood fans a signature model of earbud headset, aptly named Revamp, that has great audio quality, loud volume and very nice bass for an earbud style headset. Now the fans of the TV series can wear this headset and show off the series title printed on the built-in mic and volume control chrome piece and the series name in Chinese characters on the earbuds.
The V-moda Revamp headset is made with high quality lightweight metal inside and according to V-moda every component in the Revamp passes military test guidelines (MIL-810-STD). The sturdy built doesn?t get in the way of comfort, and the earbuds on the V-moda feels soft and stable in ears. The Revamp comes with 4 pairs of soft silicone fittings in different sizes along with ear hooks in case you need to wear it while jogging. You can certainly wear these earbuds all day without tiring out your ears. The earbuds are black with red accent tips and have True Blood in Chinese character prints and Revamp branding on them. The chrome piece that houses the mic and volume rock hangs a couple of inches below your chin, and the mic is quite powerful and can pick up your voice easily. On this chrome piece, you will find True Blood branding, this time in English, to please the fans of the series. If you wear the headset with the included ear hooks, the mic/volume control chrome piece gets quite close to your chin, and you can?t change the position of the chrome piece to give it more room. The headset stays securely in the ears with the help of the ear hooks when you wear it running.
The V-moda Revamp comes with black Kevlar reinforced fabric cables that are thin but more robust than plastic cords and last longer. The headset also comes with a small clip, branded with True Blood print, that can easily tie the headset?s cable to your clothing. The 3.5mm audio jack plug has a 45-degree angle that allows you to push the plug into an audio jack without pressing on the audio wire, and the audio plug is plated with 24k gold. We like the thin connector piece that makes the headset easier to work with phones inside just about any case with an audio jack cutout.
Audio Quality and Volume
The V-moda Revamp headset has V-Moda?s 9mm V-MASQUE driver that delivers a whole range of sounds and it?s finely tuned to include bass, mids and highs equally. The headset silicone fittings no only keep the headset steady in your ear but they do a very good job at blocking ambient noise. We tested the headset while driving on the highway and flying on the plane, and found the headset could completely block the highway noise and while it didn?t block as much noise on the plane music playback was loud enough to cut engine noise to a low level. The headset has loud volume.
The V-moda Revamp headset has good audio clarity and channel separation. Bass is powerful by earbuds standards and most music pieces sound balanced. Here are some details on how the V-moda Revamp headset performs at playing different types of music:
Jazz: Playing jazz pieces, the headset doesn?t sound harsh on those long symbol pieces and showcases vocals in full range. The clarity is quite good and each instrument and vocal stands out nicely.
Rock: The headset has strong drivers to let rock songs? power through. Bass is strong but not hugely clear, mudding some beats in certain tracks, but the volume and vibration more than make up for it. Rock fans can turn up the volume and enjoy most bands and their work.
Classical and Instrumental: The clarity of the headset really shines when you play well-arranged classical or instrumental pieces. Each instrument has clear voice in full range and nuances come through in many pieces. While aficionados of classical pieces, such as symphonies or orchestral pieces, might not enjoy them over an earbud headset, in a pinch, the V-moda does a very decent job giving us the clarity and broad range of instrument sounds.
Rap/HipHop: While some Rock songs have muddied base, the headset is outstanding at playing many Rap/HipHop music tracks and keeping the rhythm clear as the headset has no trouble with most synthesized music pieces.
We are fans of V-moda earbud headsets and have certain expectations for their products. The V-moda Revamp headset doesn?t disappoint: it has clear audio and loud volume. The headset showcases a wide range of sounds and instruments well and keeps them balanced in most music pieces. The True Blood fans will find their favorite show branding on the headset, and even if you are not a fan, the headset looks sleek with black cables, audio plug and earpieces with red accents, and a chrome mic piece.
