What's Hot: Form fitting, great colors, easy to use.
What's Not: No screen protector included.
iSkin recently released three new cases for the iPhone 4. We've looked at the iSkin solo vu which is more rugged model among the new cases, while the iSkin solo and iSkin solo FX SE are more fashionable models. The iSkin solo and iSkin solo FX SE cases have the same form factor and are made with the same material. The only difference is that the FX SE (Special Edition) case has a almost 3D-like pattern on the back while the iSkin solo case has solid colored back; and the retails prices reflect the FX SE's extra treatment.
The slim iSkin solo and solo FX SE cases have perfect form to fit the iPhone 4, and they are very easy to use. The solo cases are made with a new generation of thermoplastic that?s sturdy yet has some flexibility. The cases cover the back of the iPhone 4 and wrap around to cover the front edges of the display bezel. This provides some protection for the iPhone 4?s display: when you put the phone face down on a flat surface, the case will touch the surface instead of the iPhone 4?s screen. The back of the iSkin solo case is the thinnest among the new iSkin iPhone 4 cases while the iSkin solo FX SE?s back is thicker with the extra layer of print. The sides of the cases are flexible, making it easy to put the iPhone 4 in or take it out of the case.
The iSkin solo for iPhone 4 comes in four delicious colors including Cosmo (translucent pink), Carbon (translucent black), Bondi (translucent blue) and Vive (translucent purple). You can sense a theme here: while the cases come in different colors, the thermoplastic is somewhat translucent, and you see the hint of Apple logo on the back of the phone through the case. The iSkin solo FX SE however looks much bolder with modern-art like shapes printed on the back of the case. It comes in the same four colors as the iSkin solo case, but the shapes give the case a very different look. Both the iSkin solo and iSkin solo FX SE cases are slim with the FX SE weighing an ounce and the solo 0.8 ounce.
Aside from the cheerful colors and form fitting cuts, the iSkin solo and solo FX SE cases also add Microban antimicrobial treatment in the material, a technology that helps prevent bacteria growing and discoloring the cases and keep the colors bright. The iSkin cases for the iPhone 4 also have perfect cutouts for the 30-pin connector and speaker/mic grills on the bottom, the silence slider on the side (fits both AT&T and Verizon models), the audio out jack on top and the rear camera and flash. The cutouts on both cases are identical. We tested the iPhone 4 with several alarm clocks and docking stations, and found that the phone worked with most of them while in the iSkin cases. The volume buttons and power buttons live under raised plastic covers and they are also very easy to use.
Among the three new iPhone 4 cases from iSkin, the iSkin solo vu is the most rugged model. It features a built-in 30-pin connector dock cover ? when you are not using the port, you can close it with a plastic plug to prevent dust, moisture and link getting into the connector. Neither the iSkin solo nor the iSkin solo FX SE comes with a dock cover. The cases also come with a screen cleaning cloth and anti-static cleaning wipes, but they don?t come with a screen protector.
The new iSkin solo, iSkin solo FX SE and iSkin solo vu cases have simple yet smart designs: different designs fit various tastes from subtle to fashionably bold to rugged. The thermoplastic material will keep the shape of the cases longer than the generic silicone cases, which is a great thing given the perfect form fitting of these cases. We also like the color selection and perfect cutouts. The cases can effectively protect your iPhone 4 from pokes, scratches and nicks in your backpack or purse, but you will need to provide your own screen protector if you want to protect the entire iPhone 4.
