What's Hot: Good sound (for its size), rechargeable, works with anything that has a headphone jack. True stereo separation. Soft rubber contact points won't scratch your tablet.
[bWhat's Not: The clip doesn't work well when your tablet is in a portfolio style case. Audio cable may be a bit too short for some.
The Logitech Tablet Speaker is an ultraportable, rechargeable stereo speaker that is specifically designed for tablets.
Logitech's Tablet Speaker is a thoughtfully designed speaker for portable devices. A heavy-duty spring-loaded clip will firmly attach it to your tablet of choice, and the soft rubber contact points will prevent it from scratching or otherwise marring your precious electronics. That is, of course, as long as you are not using an overly bulky or portfolio style case as the clip may not be large enough to accommodate them. The good news, however, is that the audio cable is long enough to allow you to place the speaker underneath or nearby your device; barely. I'm not going to gripe too loudly about this as it was obviously a design decision. The cable tucks away neatly within a small groove on the backside of the unit. If it were larger, this wouldn't be possible and you’d be forced to deal with an ever-dangling, perpetually tangled cable.
The unit is rechargeable via mini-usb port (cable included), however you will have to provide your own USB wall adaptor or plug it into your computer to charge it. The speaker comes charged right out of the box, and it was up and running in seconds. The inclusion of green and red LEDs near the power switch is a welcome feature as they tell you when it's time to charge it up.
The sound is surprisingly loud for such a small unit, and the stereo separation really makes you realize how underwhelming the iPad's single speaker is. As it is essentially a large, amplified headphone, there is no volume control on the device, which is not a problem at all unless you waste time looking for one.
The Logitech Tablet Speaker attempts to walk the knife-edge between portability and sound and, for the most part, succeeds. There are louder portable speakers, and there are smaller ones, but I found this one to have achieved a nice balance between the two. My only real complaint is the clip, which isn't quite large enough to accommodate my portfolio case. This wasn't a deal breaker for me, however as parking it in front of my iPad while it's propped up for viewing didn't feel all that inconvenient.
