The Lenovo IdeaPad Y580 15.6" notebook is quite the gamer, despite its relatively low price tag. While you won't get uber-thinness or drop dead good looks, you can get a fast third gen Intel Core i7 quad core machine with 2GB Nvidia GeForce GTX660M graphics, 8 gigs of DDR3 RAM and a 1080p display for under $1,200.
In our gaming demo video, we test three top, demanding 3D titles at native 1920 x 1080 resolution: Crysis 2, Batman Arkham City and FEAR 3. In Fear3 the game plays wonderfully at max settings. Crysis 2 was more challenging and we went with "high" settings, which actually translates to the lowest quality selection available. Ultra settings got us 25 fps, which is too low for a shooter. Batman did well with medium settings as long as we avoided DirectX 11 mode.
