iPhone 5 Case Review: Trident Apollo Case for iPhone 5 Review

Editor's Ratings (1-5): 3.5

What's Hot: Interchangeable back plate (2 included) for the stylishly-minded. Includes screen protector.

What's Not: No subtle or muted color options limits the appeal.

The Apollo by Trident is a stylish line of cases. The interchangeable back plate will likely be appreciated by those who find its bright neon color combinations to their liking.

Size and Fit

The Apollo fits the iPhone snugly and securely. It snaps together in seconds, and gives full access to all buttons, ports, and switches. Because this is not designed to be a rugged or tough case, it will add very little bulk to your iPhone 5.

Features and Quality

The Apollo is Trident's line of cases that favors size over protection. This is not a bad thing as it's usually pointless to carry more protection than you need. If you tend to use your phone indoors and don't expose it to a lot of moisture, the Apollo may be the right level of ruggedness for you. It will provide basic bump/scuff protection, and may guard against damage from short drops. Unlike Trident's other offerings, however, the Apollo isn't going to keep your phone from getting wet, dusty, or crushed. As I previously alluded to, it is slim and light, and will likely fit into any pocket that will hold an unencumbered iPhone, and its slick, polished finish won't turn your pocket inside-out when you try to remove it.

Style

Here's where the Apollo really sets itself apart. Included with every case, is two different-colored backplates (additional backplates available for purchase). These have no functional purpose, but they add a great deal of flair, and allow you to set yourself apart with wild and outlandish color combinations. What's that? You're not interested in wild and outlandish color combinations? Well, then, move along, because there's nothing to see here as the Apollo is only available in blue, pink, red, and green.

Summary

If you need light bump/scuff protection for your iPhone, and like bright neon colors, then the Apollo is for you. If you're headed for the beach or the boardroom, however, this is not your case. It is brightly colored and provides no moisture or drop protection.

Price: $29.95 (pack of 4 additional backplates: $16.95)
