iSkin has recently released three new cases for the iPad mini, two in portfolio style and one in form-fitting skin. The vibes folio Swirl Edition case is one of the most eye-catching iPad mini cases we've seen on the market. The slim folio style case has nylon fabric exterior in pleasing swirl patterns that look luscious in three available colors, purple, dark silver and cream, though currently only the dark silver one is available. The case offers great protection thanks to the hard plastic tablet holder that prevents bumps and scratches as well as takes some shock damage. The case is very functional and adds very little bulk or weight to the iPad mini.
The iSkin vibes folio Swirl Edition case has unique cover design. The swirl patterns not only look stylish but also have texture that looks and feels like prints itched onto fabric. The texture is soft and gives the case a better grip. The case looks slim, even though it includes a sturdy hard plastic tablet holder to help your tablet survive in a backpack or travel bag. The case weighs only 6.6 ounces. The iSkin vibes folio Swirl Edition has soft microfiber lining that feels ultra smooth. There is also two credit card/business card sized slots inside the front cover, and three ridges to work with the built-in stand. The plastic tablet holder is easy to install but takes a bit of finesse to work the tablet out of it.
Compared to iSkin's aura folio case for the iPad mini, the iSkin vibes folio Swirl Edition has more feminine side to it. The swirl patterns, the small iSkin badge and the three soft colors make this case a great choice for women who wish to carry their tablet in a more fashionable case than in one of the overwhelmingly majority of masculine cases. The only thing that subtracts from the case is that the smell of the print dye is super strong. You can definitely smell it when you take the case out of packaging and you can still smell it after a week or two airing out. The smell will eventually disappear but in the mean time, it's a little too strong.
The iPad mini is very functional in the iSkin vibes folio Swirl Edition case. The cutouts on the case are simple but perfectly aligned. The side cutout gives you easy access to the multi-function button and volume buttons, and the case has tapered cuts that leave most of the top of the tablet open to access the power button, mic and the audio jack as well as the bottom mic, speakers and the Lightning port exposed. The case has a round cutout for the rear camera that's aligned with the lens nicely.
The iSkin vibes folio Swirl Edition has a built-in stand and you can prop up the tablet in landscape mode in three viewing angles with the flattest one at about 45 degrees. The soft microfiber-like lining helps prevent the plastic holder from slipping and the tablet stands steadily in the case. The cover also doubles as automatic sleep and wake control. It works very effectively, but the magnets in the cover some times do trigger the automatic sleep function when you fold back the cover and make it touch the back of the tablet in the case.
The iSkin vibes folio Swirl Edition is one of the most stylish iPad mini cases we've seen on the market. The feminine design and colors make this case ideal for women who wish to dress their tablet in more colors and patterns than solid black. The case is very protective thanks to the hard plastic tablet holder and it's very functional given the perfect cutouts for ports and buttons. The case is both light and slim and has built-in stand. The magnetic cover is convenient for automatic wake and sleep, but it does accidently turn the screen off when you fold the front cover back.
