Photography focussed multi use lightweight notebook
      07/22/14 09:35 AM

Hello,

I need advice on lightweight notebook options. Also, I have some questions below where the responses might help me better develop the right feature list to look for.

Thanks in advance!

Objective:
Light weight notebook that I will use for photography work (Lightroom and Photoshop) while travelling, email, web browsing, and for general business use (MS Office type applications) when not travelling.

Desired features:
• Windows 8+
• 3.5 lbs or less, ideally 3lbs or less
• High color ACCURACY (e.g. low delta E post calibration) and good gamut (high percentage of sRGB and good aRGB coverage).
• Full HD screen
• Pen: I am unsure about this. I’m not a drawing/painting artist but would like to edit photos on the go and a mouse for detailed editing/masking is a bit of a hassle compared to a traditional wacom tablet. Will touch screens or Pens work better than a mouse?
• At least 13” screen
• Keyboard that is suitable for someone with large hands (cannot be too narrow)

Questions:
• Pen/Touch: 1. Usefulness of pen vs. touch when controlling Lightroom 4 and Photoshop 6: Can you use your finger on a touch screen to edit/select/mask in Lightroom and Photoshop well or is the detail/accuracy of touch screens insufficient? Put it another way, is the finger a good substitute for a mouse or a pen? 2. If the device has an N-Trig pen, will it work well with Lightroom 4 and Photoshop 6?
• Color Accuracy/ Calibration capability, accuracy post calibration: For Lenovo devices, what accuracy of color post calibration (particularly yellows on Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro). Note: I tried the Yogo 2 Pro when it came out and the color of the yellows was not acceptable at that time and even after the initial driver “fix.” Do any of the other devices have challenges getting good accuracy post calibration?
• Screen Resolution: Is it truly worthwhile to get a screen resolution that is greater than Full HD?
• Anything else that should influence my choice of notebook given my objectives above?

My Current Shortlist
• Sony Duo 13
• Sony Pro 13
• Sony Flip 13
• Lenovo Yoga 2
• Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro
• HP Spectre 13 (has this been discontinued?)
