best browser for Palm/PPC?
      #21415 - 10/16/05 05:54 PM

Hi,
I have another software question that would help me decide between a Palm TX (320x480) or a wifi vga PPC (480x640).
Which one has the best browser (including 3rd party)? Basicly which one renders best and best utilizes the screen real estate?
Thanks

:-)

I'd say Pocket PCs have the better web browsing experience. Pocket IE renders sites more accurately than Palm's Blazer and there are 3rd party browsers for Windows Mobile if IE doesn't suite you such as NetFront (not yet WM5 compatible yet though) and the upcoming Opera for WM5 devices.

Thanks lisa for the reply.
I was hoping that Blazer 4.3, since I believe it is powered by the Netfront engine (since Blazer4 on Tungsten T5), would be more competitive.

The latest version of Blazer on the Palm T|X definitely shows signs of improvement. But still not quite as good when it comes to rendering on tougher sites and it still is a tad slow. It's not horrid by any means... The other problem is choice: with PPC you have IE, Netfront (albeit not avail for WM5 devices yet) and Opera coming soon. There are a few other smaller players but I'm sticking to the bigger and better offerings. For Palm it's pretty much the included Blazer or Xiino which is great for fast, low bandwidth page loads but pretty ugly in the rendering department.
