Smartphone Case Review: PureGear Slim Shell Case for Samsung Galaxy S5 Review
      #46820 - 08/07/14 08:00 PM

PureGear offers several case models for the Samsung Galaxy S5, and among them, the Slim Shell case has a simple design yet can protect the phone from daily wear and tear. The case also comes in seven colors and it's easy to use. The PureGear Slim Shell Case for Samsung Galaxy S5 protects the phone on the back and sides, and it works with PureGear's PureTek screen protectors.

The PureGear Slim Shell Case for Samsung Galaxy S5 is very well designed. The case combines a strong polycarbonate shell and soft and rubber cover on the sides. The hard shell protects the phone from scratches, bumps and nicks to the back and sides of the phone, and the rubber cover gives the phone a better grip. Though the shell case is shiny, it's actually not slippery at all. The two-tone design works well in most color options which include Sunset Pink (in photos here), Mystical Blue (blue with purple rubber), Jungle Green and more. There's a version that has a clear back with black bumper sides if you wish to let your Samsung Galaxy S5's style shine through. The case doesn't add too much bulk to the slim phone and only an ounce in weight.

The rubber cover on the PureGear Slim Shell Case also helps when it comes to install the case and take it off. The hard shell has cutout over the volume buttons and bottom ports, and only the soft cover protects the buttons. You can lift the rubber side and push the phone out of the case. Another nice touch in the case design is that it has three tiny bumps on the back cover so that when you put the case down, the bumps lift the case slightly and prevent scratches to the shiny back cover. The case rises slightly above the front display as well but not tightly around the display. This means you can use almost any screen protector including PureGear's own PureTek screen protectors.

The PureGear Slim Shell Case is a functional case thanks to the cutouts that give you access to the phone's ports. The case has a perfect cutout on the back for the rear camera/flash/heart rate monitor cluster, and a cutout over the speakerphone grille. The side buttons on the phone including the power and volume buttons are under the rubber cover, and they're easy to use underneath the rubber. The case has perfect cutouts for the audio jack, the mic and IR window on the top of the phone. The charge/sync port cutout is just large enough for you to use your fingernail to open the port cover, not much extra outside of that, and the case has a mic port cutout as well.

The PureGear Slim Shell Case for Samsung Galaxy S5 is a simple yet protective case for the smartphone that doesn't add too much bulk or weight. The case is ideal for daily commuters and for protecting the phone while you're using it in the office, at home or around town. Its eye-catching color options are a big plus for those who want to jazz up their smartphone and for those who want to show it off (with the clear version) too. The case is well made and easy to use and handle. The cutouts and covered buttons give you easy access to all ports and controls on the Galaxy S5.
