Best web browsing PDA??
      #9410 - 03/20/04 12:20 AM

What I need: A good sized screen to browse the net with. Bluetooth to hook up to a cell phone for dialing out. A keyboard. Good OS that has a good browser. It's first mission will be to browse the net,a small laptop,if you will. I have a reg sized laptop, but that's not feasible in certain situations. I've looked at the Zaurus. I like the size of the screen but am itimidated by Linux, and lack of apps. I'd prefer a hard drive but a good amt of internal ram would suffice. I've looked at the OQO. It isn't out yet and I really don't want to pay $2000 for it anyway. I'm in the $800 or less category, roughly, unless something REALLY stands out. I've even considered buying one of those CDrom sized mini-computers and getting a 6-7" touchscreen LCD and mini-mouse to do the job. I dunno. My perfect machine would be: 6-7" high color screen,10+gig HD,Bluetooth,Wifi,USB and Firewire. WinXP. With a trackstik or similar and keyboard, built in. And decent batt life. Is there such a beast or am I just dreaming???? WITHOUT paying $2K for it,that is...!

-About Zaurus C860: it's got a great screen, bundled with a great browser, has both SD and CF slots for Wifi/BT cards, one of the best keyboard, within your price range. The Linux stuff isn't very hard to learn and there are companies provide nice apps with GUI.

-About OQO: announced about 2 years ago, taken some pre-orders, the device never came out. We saw it again at CES in Jan 2004, it won't be out until at least the Fall 2004.

-About Nexio 160: in case you haven't seen the review, here is the link:

running .NET (GUI just like XP), good amount of software available, Wifi built in, great screen...a little over your range.

Other alternatives: check out the small laptop and XP Tablet PCs here:

The ultralight notebooks will probably be priced out of your range, but some tablets might be close to your price. You can get the first gen Acer for $800-$1000 on eBay for example.
